Working with Landscapers During Tough Economic Times
Since I founded Steven Vandora and Associates, I have certainly seen the economy go through its ups and downs. One thing I have noticed that has saddened me greatly is that when people are worried financially, one of the first things they do is to cut back on landscaping and time in the garden. It’s sad to see gardens that our team has worked on with Steven Vandora and Associates fall into disrepair.
Of course, if it’s a matter of choosing between paying your utility bills and paying your landscaper, I believe you should take care of your family and commitments first. But I have also found that people often panic when economic woes threaten, and sometimes keeping a beautiful garden is one of the kindest things you can do for yourself. If your wallet is looking a little lean, my experience with Steven Vandora and Associates suggests:
1) A nice garden remains a nice investment for your home and yourself. A well-maintained landscape is important for keeping up your home value, especially when the real estate market is shaky. As any realtor will tell you, keeping your home’s curb appeal high always ensures a better asking price and market value. More importantly, I think, a nice garden is an important way of pampering yourself and providing you with a refuge when times are hard.
2) Work with your landscaper to come up with some budget-friendly suggestions. Since I founded Steven Vandora and Associates, I have always believed that landscaping should be affordable and that’s why I work with each client to ensure that they get a garden they love at a price they can afford. Speak to your landscaper – he or she may be able to recommend subtle changes that will cut down on maintenance costs or landscaping costs.
3) Try some do-it-yourself projects. Get away from the real world for a few hours by working in the garden. I know that has always helped me when I have been worried or distressed – it’s why I started Steven Vandora and Associates.
